Iconic Mount Rushmore
Tom Arne Hanslien
printed on Giclée Hahnemühle Pearl
The iconic Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills in South Dakota, USA. Funnily enough as I grew up I kept seeing this monument in cartoons and in films but always thought it was just a fictional place. It was natural then to go and visit it when I had the chance back in 2010 on a road trip that started off in Salt Lake City, Utah and ended in Chicago, Illinois. It is an impressive monument – the scale really becomes apparent when you get up close to the monument. It depicts four of America’s presidents - George Washington (1732–1799), Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826), Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919), and Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). The project took about 14 years and the sculptor planning and overseeing the work was Gutzon Borglum with the help of his son Lincoln Borglum.
If you get the chance to visit this monument I strongly recommend that you also visit another extraordinary monument under construction very nearby called “Crazy Horse Memorial”
